yellow pages are dead

The Yellow Pages Are Dead!

by Rick Fulton

If your business depends on the Yellow Pages to generate new customers, you’re in big trouble!

Ask any business owner and you’ll hear comments like… “I’m getting less than 1/2 of the calls from my Yellow Page ads that I got just a few years ago” or even “What a waste of money. It just doesn’t work anymore”.

Even worse, the prices for these Yellow Page ads go up each year. WTF????

And now, the Yellow Page reps are trying to sell internet marketing services to unsuspecting business owners desperate for sales. Can even one business owner out there tell me this is working for them? Are you really going to trust the future of your business to the same guy who sells you Yellow Page ads???

Of course, the ONLY reason the Yellow Page reps are pressuring you to buy their lame Internet services is… they know the print ads don’t work like they used to. It’s called “saving their job”. I don’t blame them and I feel for these Yellow Page salespeople, but it is certainly not your job or responsibility to help them save their jobs. The goal is to save your business!

Unfortunately, the Yellow Pages are part of the group of advertising options now known as “dead media”. The group includes print newspapers, direct mail, and magazines. They are all going out to pasture. They’re done. Finished. Bye, bye Yellow Pages!

So where did all the customers go? THEY WENT TO THE INTERNET! And that’s where you need to take your business.

Just don’t be fooled into thinking your local Yellow Pages rep has magically transformed themselves into an Internet Marketing expert. You know better!

With the help of Cell Phone Number Finder sites you can easily find out the phone number of any individual. You can use this system to locate an old friend or find out the name of the person who makes anonymous calls on his mobile phone. Number Can Be Located By Entering The Name There are several websites where you can find the facility to enter the person’s name to get his number or enter a number to get the corresponding person’s name. These sites are similar to the yellow pages or a telephone directory where one can find a list of all people who have phone numbers. Such Cell Phone Number Finder sites have certain software to locate a person’s number from the internet. There are many social networking and business sites where people p … cell phone number finder, phone number finder, number finder

It's an actual course you take that last about 3 months once a week on Fridays. So it fits your schedule. IT REALLY was a life saver for our business. Because as a small business owner…you really don't know…what you don't know!

It doesn't help their case that they refer to themselves as 'Yellow Pages for the 21st Century', followed by claims to have been 'First Yellow Pages with Videos… First Yellow Pages with VoIP… Now the First Yellow Pages with Chat!' – when the name Yellow Pages, used as a 'directory of businesses and services', is a registered (UK) trademark, and has been for decades. Yell are perfectly within their rights to protect their TM. And anyway… Google and Yell are already working together as it is. Search for a business on local.google.co.uk – and look where the data come from.

Isn’t it wonderful to finally have a purpose in life? This woman surely found hers. She comforts hundreds of families with the portrait of their deceased loved ones. I’m sure it’s quite fulfilling for her in many ways. The spirits of these soldiers come to see her I’m sure. She’s a good person. We must learn from her and do our part.

I take it you are planning on putting up a web site, and then allowing home owners to offer their homes for sale on the site?

Just do it. Build the site, then sell the ads.

BE CAREFUL!!! You don't want to do something that is going to get you on the wrong side of the real estate commission in your state. Check with them.

Thank you, Gail, for trying to be nice and bring David Brooks out of fantasyland and back to reality. Sadly, he doesn’t see just how the Koch Brothers and other big business owners will do everything in their power to break the unions and make sure that only little people pay taxes. Willful ignorance cannot be cured. Enjoy the cabernet–you are going to need it!

I focus on internet marketing with my small company. I can tell you that when I started I was the only SEO shop around in my geographical area. Then almost overnight, every web developer in my area became an SEO expert. They posted a page talking about SEO, and magically, they added this service at premium prices. Some were smart enough to contact me and subcontract out the work, but many of these companies destroyed my market because they did such a poor jog that I now have to spend time explaining why it will be different with my company because “they already tried this and it didn’t work” type of resistance.

It’s the year 2011. Clients are tougher. Budgets are smaller. Ad people are working longer. Everyone wants to ‘shift product’ at minimum cost. Everyone wants an idea that will work Above, below and through the line and deliver ROI. And we have to sit here, listen and bow to one of the biggest scammers of them all talking about the ‘challenges’ of working for charities with no money, doing print ads for Playstations and shavers. So Pete, no, I’m not fucking grateful for his ‘wisdom’. This man is the perfect example of the late nineties, early two thousands mentality of ‘scam or die’. Not relevant. Not inspiring. Not a true reflection of the industry in Australia. Boo.

Yes, they do.

When Democrats raise taxes people can't spend as much, which means less money taxed, which = LESS REVENUE.

When Republicans lower taxes people can spend more, which means more money taxed, which = MORE REVENUE.

The Situation February 26, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Print is going down like a Mike Tyson opponent circa 1988. In the technological age that we live in, there are quicker and more effective ways to communicate a marketing message. And for the OCD audience, it is extremely likely messages contained in print ads will never reach them, as the idea of cluttering their space(s) with magazines and newspapers is certain to cause schizo episode. However, should we band together as a society and permanently discard our computers, iPhones, and Blackberries, then print-ads are guaranteed to make a roaring comeback.

When are manufacturers going to realize that tablets are not selling and if you’ve already got a high end cell phone, their a waste of money too! Unless you travel 3 weeks a month and need something to watch movies on, there’s nothing I want in a tablet that I don’t already have on my cell phone. And it’s not like you can just stuff them in your pocket, even at 7 inches it’s too large to fit comfortably. But for some reason manufacturers think these tablets are the new laptops. You’re never going to replace peoples laptops with these things. Don’t flame me, just calling it as I see it. or THINK it. :)

I just wanted to share a tip on how to “make” your own return address labels instead of writing your address in the upper left corner. I cut mine out of junk direct-mail. This way I don’t need to shred my junk mail to guard against personal information. I avoid needing a shredder and I get free labels. I attach them to outgoing mail with clear tape.

Pills and liquid are both pretty useless compared to monohydrate. Go to bodybuilding.com some good ones are AST Micronized creatine and the Higher Power micronized creatine. Micronized= better absorbtion, no stomache upset. Also in liquid, creatine converts to a garbage product-creatinine. It has no benifits, only stresses your kidneys. To prevent this always drink the creatine immidiatly after mixing. Any other questions dont hesitate to ask. Monohydrate is basically a fancy word for powder.

Well, that's a story
1) EU commission is not able to consider this kind of problem but the executives
2) you have omitted to point out LL has a branch at Brighton UK
3) The VAT registration number was provided t the place pointed by LL in its blog
4) Points 3, 4, 5 are denunciations ; they consider your own country tax authorities
5) Invoices are not required for services (refer to your mobile phone provider)
6) There are no prices publshed in Europe ; prices are noted on a web site published by linden research, inc. 1100 sansome st. san francisco, CA 94111 US ; in the USA there is no VAT on Internet Services

If you are for an exemption of taxes for Internet Services inside EU, it would be a good idea to contac your internet access provider ; they ask such a measure several years ago
Best regards

As a wise man once said, all the different forms of art serve the only and the greatest art ever – the art of living. Indeed, whether it is a painting or a lyrical poem, an art work always tries to deliver some knowledge to us. Great landscapes on the photographs or paintings show the beauty of the Nature and thus teach us respect and love the environment, where we are not the only inhabitants. Some artists devote themselves to the social or street photography to reveal some drawbacks of the modern society and help people learn the art of kindness, generosity, and mutual assistance. The art of portraits highlight the beauty of a human body, but it also reminds clearly that body itself is faceless without a soul inside. Illustrators and caricaturists represent and bring fun to the art, teaching the audience to relax, enjoy the life, and be happy on the long run.

Forgetting the whole George Will thing, HS rail isn’t going to be an attractive method of travel for most people in this country. The air system, while fairly cattle car-ish, is well developed and does a reasonable job. In the few places where HS rail could be viable, the development of a HS rail system extremely expensive and really offers limited benefits over existing methods of public transportation.

It most likely is one of the following problems:

1) New phones don't provision for data immediately… it can take up to 24 hours in many cases. If this is a new phone, it may just be a waiting game.

2) You are not in a 3G connection area. If you try to access any web based applications when you don't have access to 3G, the phone may misread what your voice plan is and claim you don't actually have the service.

3) AT&T's network centers have not been recently updated with your new phone information. (Happens very often with new phones).

4) The phone is not compatible with the rate plan you are on. Many smart phones from most carriers (including AT&T) may not be compatible with certain rate plan set ups (i.e. a standard voice plan with a separate data attachable), and it could be AT&T's policy that only a select number of rate plans they offer are allowed to be used with the iPhone.

Personally, I'd call AT&T and let them know what is going on. They should have an immediate solution available, and it most likely is going to be one of the above scenarios. Best o' luck on this.

Nice post Steve! I noticed your question and the link to the post on LinkedIn. We are using social networks on a regular basis to help business owners connect with those that actually need their services and/or they know someone else that does; harvesting referrals. The technology is so advanced many business owners don't understand the capabilities for growing their businesses – still a lot of educating to be accomplished. Again, thanks for the post.

I use my computer for research all the time and find the Yellow Pages a lot more useful when I want a local service or store than clicking through a ton of google entries. I use the internet when I know exactly who or what company I’m looking for, but when I’m not sure, I like to run through the Yellow Page ads – they give me pertinent information very quickly. I think if everyone could easily opt-out of getting the YP if they didn’t want them, that would end a good amount of waste. I appreciate getting mine, but I would be happy to receive it as an option and not automatically.

AMAbuilder March 5, 2011 at 11:36 pm

Honestly I would not say that I have ever had a heart to heart with any client. I am in my 30s and they are in their 50′s, 60′s. My Uncle, the business owner, who is their age, has had more of this. We play good cop, bad cop as part of our business dynamic to be successful with these people. I’m often bad cop asking for the money. All that said, I 75% of all our clients could do more. They either don’t think they can, don’t know they can, or are afraid to. I don’t think the reason is that they don’t want to. There are also people who think that no matter what you do, people will always fight, people will always be poor, etc….as an excuse to do nothing.

It’s so disingenuous too. Australia has a lot of piracy because we have such poor quality yet expensive internet services. And the ones we do have are poorly integrated with the various distribution channels. For example: * Netflix in the US is tightly integrated into AppleTV, PS3, Xbox Live as well as great app for iPad/iPhone/Android. Cheap subscription with loads of content. * PlayTV (Channel 7) in Aus on the PS3 is nothing more than a poorly made website with two or three TV shows on it. Not to mention that it’s bullshit that I have to wait weeks/months AFTER a show airs in the US to watch it here. Likewise for movie releases.

You must be a trolling or highly confused. If one party pays a fee for transmitting, and the receiver pays a fee for receiving, it should be easily sustainable. The ISPs desire to portray this as non-sustainable is just feeding on ignorance. They simply want more money, of which they really aren’t entitled to. It’s not an Internet 101 that’s required, it is a greedy business models 101. Well, one could argue that you seem to lack some basic understanding of what different operating costs of Internet services are.

Do you not eat in Mexican restaurants that have those candles showing that they’re Catholic? Do you refuse to use a company that has a fish/Christian symbol in the Yellow Pages ad? Way to have tolerance. You make America proud.

Great summary, Sarah. All of us at HubSpot appreciate you taking the time to understand and write this up. Let us know if we can help you with anything.

Also, it's probably important to note that we work with a lot of web design, development and internet marketing services firms. Many times, it makes sense for small and mid sized businesses to use HubSpot for their infrastructure, tap the training as needed and hire a 3rd party firm to help them use our tools more effectively. We think these firms add a lot of value and we're much more interested in working together to help our mutual clients.

Google increased its share of spending on search engine marketing during the last three months of 2009, according to new figures.

Mediapost said the Efficient Frontier numbers show the search engine pulled in 74.5 per cent of total outlay on internet marketing services between October and December, up from 73.9 per cent in the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! attracted 20.4 per cent of search marketing budgets, down from 20.9 per cent in the three months to September.

Bing's share of search engine marketing spend dipped from 5.3 per cent in Q3 to 5.1 per cent in Q4.

Mediapost said the retail sector drove spending on search engine marketing in the fourth quarter, as online stores geared up for the Christmas period. The industry's outlay on internet marketing grew by 17 per cent during the quarter.

Isn't one of the problems with advertising medications that the FCC places all sorts of restrictions on what can actually be broadcast? Print ads for meds have all sorts of fine print detailing a vast number of side effects, and a 30 second TV spot won't be able to do that. As a result, most of a TV spot is going to be faced with the last two of your bullet points at the top, distraction and misdirection. There just isn't time in the spot to go over a laundry list of benefits and side effects. It'll be a highly successful ad then if it causes you to remember the drug's name when you go to the doctor's office; who cares what it actually does or doesn't do.

my friend’s wife, both of whom are generally very conservative, recently wrote this. it’s long, but very passionate and seems to be relevant to the way you’re feeling: “I have never been a very political person. I hold fairly conservative views. I do not believe that fair means equal. In the last month I have learned more politically than I have in the last 37 years and I am saddened by what I now understand. Below are my thoughts, I hope you take the time to read them… I have learned how much the unions have done for all of America – not just those that are a part of the union. I am grateful for FMLA (and I couldn’t afford to take the time when we had Grace so I went back to work just three weeks after she was born, but I am still so grateful that the choice was mine – I was given that right – by a union). I am grateful that there are a set number of hours that I work in a week (not what I actually put in, but what is recognized by my employer as my work week). I am grateful to live in a country where there are child labor laws, workman’s comp, unemployment benefits and overtime pay. If you have ever worked in an environment where you had these benefits (not if you’ve ever taken advantage of them – whether you had the choice to do so because there are situations where some people need to make that choice) you should be grateful too. I am grateful for all of the good teachers out there who dig into their own pocketbooks on a regular basis to buy supplies (books, art projects, paper, etc.). I am grateful for all of the teachers that pick up second jobs during the summer to make ends meet because they are not paid enough for what they do, but they can’t imagine not being in the classroom so they gladly look for second jobs in order to continue teaching – their true passion. I am grateful for all of the teachers that attend conferences, trainings, and take higher ed classes during the summer to maintain their skill level because of the importance to teach my children what they need to know in this constantly changing world. I am grateful for teachers that work with their unions to keep their class sizes manageable because I have been the parent of a kindergartener in a class of 14 and I have been the parent of a kindergartener in a class of 24. I strongly believe that if you don’t know how many kids were in your child’s kindergarten class or you do not have children you should not be judging this situation. I have learned how misleading the media is. I have been to Madison three times and I have been consumed with watching news clips. I know that both sides of this issue have put things out to the public that are misleading, but having been there, being directly affected by this as a community member, a parent, and as a public servant, I will tell you that the media supporting Walker has lied to the public. I know that there are people reading this who either support Walker or believe that what is happening is “fair.” I am sorry that you have been misled and you don’t even know it. If you are not a parent or you have not taken an active role in your child’s education because you believe it is the school district’s responsibility alone to teach your child you don’t know that you have been duped. If you are not a public servant you really do not know what goes into this job and neither does the media. You really should not judge this issue. I am sorry that you believe I don’t pay for my pension. That is not true. Are there people out there that don’t – perhaps – I am not sure, but I know that I pay for my pension and for my health care. The blanket statements, the idea that has been pushed into the public to divide the country into the “haves and have nots” is so misleading. I have been hurt by people that have suggested that I “should tighten the belt”, I “should give a little more” or that my job is no more stressful than theirs. If you sit in a cubicle, use a calculator for most of your work, if you have an office with a window, if the words child rape, irritated genitals in a child, spiral fractures or broken femur in an infant, meth addict, chronic alcoholic, unmedicated or unmanaged mental health disorder, or tween pregnancy (that’s pre- 13yrs) make you uncomfortable you really should not be judging this situation. I have learned that there are people out there that want to make people suffer and they want people to be scared. I have learned this because I have heard people say it – supporters of Walker – who have said that public servants should feel scared because they deserve it. Do people really think that by forcing us to take a pay cut and lose our collective bargaining rights that…what…their lives will somehow be better? I have made fiscally responsible decisions, I paid for my college education, I have no credit card debt. I live pretty simply. I live within my means. It is unfortunate that by me taking a $400/month paycut people think that will improve their situation. I hope you are not a small business owner, I hope your employment isn’t based on my ability to spend money because I now have less to put into the community and if it is, I am sorry for you. I have learned just how crooked politicians are. I have learned where their money comes from. I have learned who pays the majority of taxes in this country and who pays the least. I have learned that the Republican Party believes once elected, a public official should be allowed to pass any bill they want because they have been elected and the people should not question or ask to be heard on the issue. I learned this because I heard it, in person, spoken by a republican on the Assembly floor. I believe I am essentially a collaborative employer of this governor – an election is a technique to determine who should be hired for the job. I have never heard of an employer hiring an employee and then never training them, never questioning them, or speaking to them again. I don’t believe that the Wisconsin people should have blind faith in any elected official and as a human being in the United States of America I am offended that a representative in the Republican Party thought so little of my input that this was what she said out loud, in my presence. I am tired of the division that has occurred as a result of one man’s political agenda, because let’s get honest this really wasn’t about the budget this is a sick twisted result of one man’s narcissism and his disgusting climb to power.” – Nissa

Agree with others. It’s a huge waste of money, but not your battle. I would gently encourage putting that money towards house, paying off debt or college fund for little ones in the future. But if daddy really wants baby in a new car, just let it happen (and sell me your Honda). I would get something bigger for kids and pets that may be in the near future.

The numbers indicate that the Obama Administrations policies of hurting business owners has also hurt the those looking for jobs. I am not sure why Obama thought you could create jobs by punishing those who create jobs.

Phone apps per most parts just a way of accessing the internet services. If you need to work its not possible that you cant use the internet, what you might be able to do is to not use any social sites at all…. And good luck with that!

(all of this is stated with the [reply from the business in mind) i get the feeling that most people here are not involved in the hiring and training of people. allow me to sum it up: it’s a huge pain in the ass and is what i consider to be the worst part of my job. this guys concern is people who he spent the past two weeks training going next door for $0.10 more per hour. while an employee is being trained they are costing the company money. but the company is willing to do that, assuming that the employee will stay there and work long enough to be worth that initial investment. all this girl had to do was find someplace to work 15 miles away from where she originally worked, but she couldn’t even manage that.

> Did this ever lock you out of any machines configured to use Whole Disk Encryption or out of encrypted, mounted volumes? You could have dumped the keys out of ram, etc.At the firm I worked for, preservation was priority #1 any time we were walking in to a case with high trial-risk. In order to discover that the system was encrypted, I would have to use the computer. Using the computer means changing it. Protocol was really straight forward: If it’s running, shut it down and get it to the lab.

cell phone directory by name March 14, 2011 at 7:29 am

That is needless to say, as you choose while get something throw away of the paid turn around mobile phone look internet services.

ChrisSteves March 14, 2011 at 8:51 am

I think this was a great episode of Market Place. I’m sure there are people who think it costs cell companies a lot to keep their service running and don’t realize the massive markup they are paying. The thing about phone and internet services is that cell phones are becoming an essential part of all the lives of most Canadians. Without cellphones our economy would be pretty terrible. However, we have huge markup on these services and we have to pay it. We don’t pay the true cost of food, we pay lower. We pay relatively low price on petrol considering its value and where it comes from. Yet when it comes to communication devices, we pay like 50x the true cost or more and the network is already set up. It’s an oligopoly, which is fine but becomes problematic when its an essential part in our lives. I hope the money is making its way back to the taxpayers via government in some other form (i.e roads/school), as opposed to some Rogers/Bell/Telus shareholders getting rich. I’m sure its not as black and white as it seems. In the end it doesn’t really matter. My bill is like $40/month and I’m fine with paying that because I can afford it and like/need my cell. But, I wouldn’t feel bad paying $5 /month because the costs to the company is so low. In the roaming cases it becomes more complex. It could be that Russia charged Bell thousands (Possible the 5k they negotiated to him), in which case I wouldn’t expect Bell to take a loss. However, when Russians come to Canada, Bell would probably charge a similar rate (or adjusted rate if more Russians go to Canada than Canadians to Russia). Who knows? I found it fascinating to think about.

Helix –

That is true – the SMB stuff is good and I actually do use it for one of my sites. My point isn't that they suck, it's more that 10 years ago I used Yahoo! all the time for some very core internet services and now I use them for very little. I want Yahoo! to make a comeback, its not healthy for the ecosystem to have Google running away with everything but they just seem to be stagnant when it comes to innovation.

If you accept payments for a small business, you are their agent, or their cashier.

Business manager is a business manager, nothing more.

Wife of owner may have some liability for claims. If they are married in a community property state and you successfully sue the husband, the wife's income may be available to you to pay the judgment.

Partially funding the business could be a loan, not ownership.

Sue them both and let them argue it in court.

I agree with your post that businesses especially small ones should maintain a social footprint locally. It’s great to see what the internet can do for company’s such as the one mentioned above. I also find it amazing to see small businesses still shelling out big bucks on newspaper ads and yellow page ads. It’s a know fact that readership of the papers are decreasing like crazy.Until I discovered My Lead System Pro, I also spent money the traditional way. Now, with what I learned about social media, I’m getting leads almost at will. Far better results than I used to get. I appreciate your site and will be back to visit.Take Care,

As a wife, mother, business owner, sister, daughter, auntie, and friend what I witnessed from the reunion was buffoonery at its worst. My rationale for this opinion is that I don’t think that any of the ladies truly understand the potential, power, and influence that they each hold as individuals or could hold as a collective group working together instead of against one another. Granted everyone cannot be best friends or may not chose to be best friends but what ever happened to let’s agree to disagree respectfully, tactfully, rationally, and without profanity? Where’s the dignity, decency, diplomacy, and decorum in the way that they talk and interact with one another and others. If we cannot respect each other but blatantly disrespect one another we cannot be offended, shocked, or upset when others do the same thing if not worse.

>Minimum wage limits the number of employees companies can hire. I don’t disagree with this (probably has something to do with why jobs are shipped abroad), however minimum wage simply ensures that there is a minimum standard of compensation for work. I have held 2 minimum wage jobs ($6.75) when I was 17/18 in 2005 and the owners were doing extremely well but I saw no pay increases so I left them both. At the first job, the manager and owners approved of my work but I was making $1.25 less than people who were doing the exact same job. I got turned down for pay increases here a couple times and the third time it was a “maybe in two weeks,” so I announced my resignation the following day, after 5 months of working there (most people got raises after 2/3 months). The second job I was working as a technician and doing other production support duties, including production presentations to Boeing engineers, but after 6 weeks I realized that I should have been making at least $10.00/hr for what I was doing instead of the $6.75. Of course I subsequently left. Anyhow, the point I’m trying to make here is, if there is no minimum wage, what is to say that these employers would not pay me less than what I was making? >It also appears to hit those between the ages of 16-25 the hardest, and minorities. How so? Being 17/18 (nevermind that I’m the whitest minority), the minimum wage rate protected me from not being completely taken advantage of by my former employers. When I was working as a technician, there were minorities making minimum wage doing assembly line jobs while the boss and his son get to drive around in, respectively, $80k and $70k Mercedes. >Those that do well will probably receive an increase in their income while those not as productive will receive less hours. You use the word “probably” but it does not guarantee protection from completely being exploited by business owners. For people on the bottom it’s a struggle, especially if you have a family to support, so it’s no surprise that many people choose welfare as an alternative to working as an undervalued employee. Certainly welfare reform is needed but lower-end employers need to live up to expectations that they are supposed to ethically compensate their employees.

CNChapin March 19, 2011 at 5:31 pm

@Andrew I am guessing that you are not directly involved with the Tea Party movement since you refer to it as a “Populist” movement? This is horribly inaccurate.

From Wikipedia:
“Populist may refer to A supporter of Populism, a political philosophy urging social and political system change that favours “the people” over “the elites”, or favours the common people over the rich and wealthy business owners. Populists are against big business owners.”

Wow! That just could not be more wrong. The Tea Party movement may favor the people, but it is not focused on an attack of “the elites” or really even disdain for “the elites.” The Tea Party movement also is not against big business owners. This assessment just could not be more wrong.

I felt your pain reading this post!! My worst job was selling yellow page ads over the phone. It was my first job out of college, and every Sunday around noon I would start to get a stomach ache thinking of the week to come. We had to post every sale to a board, our time on the phone was monitored, every call was recorded and reviewed, and let's face it… Yellow Pages are a dying medium… not an easy sale! Never in my life have I felt more freedom than when I walked out of that place for the last time!!

See right there you have identified one of the key misconception of capitalism. It is not necessarily the few, the market isn’t just the CEOs and the big business owners. The market is made up of the consumers, the producers, and the workers. The goal of traditional capitalism is to provide the best product to the consumer at the lowest possible price. This tends to work pretty well, but government regulation is sometimes necessary to ensure that the products are safe for the market and that the workers aren’t abused. IMHO part of the problem in America is that we are attempting to run a capitalist system with too much government interference.

Some Internet Marketers charge a monthly retainer or per specific assignment. I usually charge my clients per assignment and require 50% upfront and 50% when assignment is complete. I usually try to make sure I'm netting at least $30.00 per hour for assignments after all expenses. Hope this helps.

Alright, I just feel like ranting. **There’s your warning.** GQ is a business that makes profits from their advertisers. These advertisers are made happy by being featured in GQ articles. You’ll notice a peculiar correlation between the brands listed, and the brands that buy ad space in the magazine (I guarantee at least 4 of 5 do). That’s not to say there aren’t quality jeans on the list, but honestly…TR, 7faMK, Joes, AX (Fucking seriously?!?), Diesel are not admirable brands, and are a fucking waste of money. If this were an actual list of the best jeans, you’d see more offerings from Ironheart, Imperial, Sugar Cane, Momotaro, APC, and Samurai (the last two aren’t even that obscure). This is why I will always advise against reading stuff like GQ. Their motives are based on profits, and they know most won’t notice. They will try to sell shit because they know most people don’t know a pair of 501s from Dior 19cm, and that’s how it’s going to be as long as people take the magazine seriously. tl;dr **Stop buying GQ**
